Testing for Calcium in Tires | I grew up on a farm where we had a WD-45. I recently bought one and found it had fluid in the tires. I was unsure if there was calcium chloride in with the water. Since I'm a chemistry teacher, I made up a test solution that works really well. Dissolved about a half teaspoon of BAKING POWDER (which is sodium carbonate) in about a tablespoon of DISTILLED water. Split it into 2 small containers and shoot just a little fluid from each tire into a container. If it has calcium ions in the solution, it will quickly make a thick precipitate.
