Model C trainsmission rebuild

I am going through a 1946 C engine rebuild and now I am into the transmission the project has become much more than I planned on. Anyhow I have it all apart. I have studied the book and see how the bearings are tightened and so forth. I am curious about the bearing race for the rear mainshaft bearing. it is not seated up against the snap ring. When I install the new race how do I know the correct amount to install it? I can see how this could alter the position of the shaft also. Thanks for any help and I will have more questions as time goes on with this project.

Going by what I am seeing of others it looks like the race should be all the way to the snap ring which is what I figured on. I don't believe mine has spun in the case it feels tight. Unless I need to be corrected I will seat the new race up to the snap ring.

I am not sure of why it would be a question. I say yes with reservations wondering if you are finding a difference between the new and old.

The pressure on the taper of the race by the bearing when running will seat the race against snap ring if you don't in time. If you have not seated the race before complete assembly you would then have a loose bearing which would cause bearing failure.

I am not sure this picture will help.

Thanks for the advice. I was surprised to see the bearing race not pushed into the houseing very far and I could not understand why. The shaft was very loose also. I am just now ready to get the case cleaned up and the remove the old race.
