could 12v battery instead of 6v damage starter on B

Some say it could. I would bet the vast majority of them still running are 12v. I don't hear much about starters being a problem.

Not all that likely it is more likely it was on it way out before you had some sort of problem. I have 2 Cs which are pretty much the same engine as the B and both are 12 volt systems with 6 volt parts and they work just fine

what is "damaged" ?? I would check if your switch is making good contact and all battery cables are good / tight / no corrosion.

I have owned a Case Sc for 30 years. it was converted to 12v when I bought it. it still has a 6v autolite starter. The only trouble I've had in 30 years is the bolt that connects the drive to the armature came out once. I cleaned the threads with a bottom tap and used Loctite on the bolt. Have not had any more trouble that happened 20 years a go.
