Allis Chalmers C pulley seal

In restoring my 1942 Allis Chalmers C I replaced the seal for the belt pulley. It had been leaking. I see that it is still leaking with a new seal. Any tricks I should know in replacing the seal and not having it leak? Looks like oil is coming from from around the pulley shaft. Are the seals something that would be available elsewhere other than through AGCO if I had the Allis Chalmers part number?
Thanks in advance.

You might need a speedy sleeve on the shaft. Seals sometimes wear a groove in the shaft and a new seal will not stop the leak without repairing the shaft in some fashion.

Some of the shafts on the C, B have spiral grooves in the seal area which were useful in lubricating leather seals but
tear up the modern seals . This is solved with a speedy sleeve.

AC part number is 207993 leather seal for the shaft that has the return groove.
AC part number is 225450 rubber seal for the smooth shaft.

Chicago Rawhide seal number is 13865. The compatible speedy sleeve is 99138.

I read your write up on a speedy-sleeve. I used my digital caliber. Unfortunately, it is so precise that in my clumsy hands I kept coming up with different readings every time I used it. Now a full 1 3/8" would be 1.375. My readings ranged from 1.359 to 1.371. Most of the readings were around 1.362 to 1.364. I assuming I should go with a 1 3/8" Speedi-Sleeve. What do you think?

A rubber seal I can get a local car parts place. They have it in stock. I do not know about the Speedi-Sleeve, but with the information you provided, perhaps they can order it. Thanks much.

That's about the same situation I had. Yes, go with the 1-3/8 speedi-sleeve and apply Loctite RC-620 to the ID just before installing on the shaft. Make sure all mating surfaces are degreased beforehand. The Loctite should be available at your auto parts store. They should also be able to get the speedi-sleeve for you. If not, any power transmission/bearing aupplier should have it or can get it. Be careful and make sure you don't go too deep with the sleeve. You want the sleeve to completely cover the end of the spiral groove in the final position. If you go too deep, you won't be able to pull the sleeve back.

If I put a speedy sleeve on do I put on the rubber seal (225450) or the leather seal (2077993). I assume the former since the speedy sleeve should cover the groves. I did put the speedy sleeve on but I do not recall which seal I used, and now I see area around the belt pulley is leaking.
