I was looking into getting a 5050 and was wondering if anybody could give me any advice or impressions of them. I run mostly old internationals and farmalls. I only know it's a diesel and runs. Thanks

Fiat tractor, 50 HP. Had a 5040 and wish I'd never traded it. Parts may be a problem. They are a bear to
get started if you let it run out of fuel.

If Oliver had made a 3 cylinder 1365 the 5050 would be it basically the same tractor as the 1365 and the Long 460.Have to disagree with other poster on parts, they are one of the easiest tractors to get parts for around and they are very reasonably price.Import Tractor is an excellent parts supplier a long with many sellers on ebay and the web.I have a several of the
Fiat built tractors and really like them.New Holland/Fiat is still using the same basic design in may of their new tractors today

I might enhance Traditional Farmers reply, if my memory holds up. I "retired" from an AC dealer about the time AC died. The 5040 and 5050 looked very similar. The 5040 was a Fiat design, manufactured in Romania under license. The 5050 was made by Fiat in Italy. A little different in size, and the fit and finish appeared much nicer on the 5050. I don't recall any serious problems with either. I recall a Morelli starter which didn't like the cold. Any Lucas starter, likewise.

Fast forward- a few years back, I was looking to find something easier on the old body than an antique(confession). I found, and bought cheaply, a NH TT60A. I haven't done a side by side comparison, but it's just an old Fiat design with electrical and sheet metal updates.
I went to change the front wheel tread, and couldn't get the tie rod to move. This, on a tractor with less than 500 hours! I pounded and heated a little, but decided to research before putting a lot of expense/effort into it. I got a complete new assembly for less than $70. I don't know if the new parts would fit the older tractors. But, given that they are made and sold all over the world, and have been for so long, there has to a much better chance of getting parts than there would be for something totally discontinued.

Got a 5040 that my dad purchased new in the
70s. Still runs like a champ. I second that
they are a bear to reprime after running
out of fuel.

I've been running an early 80s 5050 now for 2 years as my mowing and small farm job tractor. Got it for $3k and havent put anything into it.
It turns out mine is actually an orchard model - final drives rotated, exhaust exits down and rear and the fenders are round. Supposed to be
lower for clearance under trees. I have hills on my property and the lower stance really makes for confident mowing across slopes. Never
seen another one so they might be kinda rare.

The steering is very light and the hydraulics are strong which is impressive to me for a 35 year old tractor. The tractor is very fuel
efficient.

Mine has been blowing white smoke and pushing oil out the breather and has gotten to the point where i had to pull the injectors and do some
diagnostics. Pressures were 230-50-230 psi. Manual says spec is 370 rebuild under 320 psi, so the head is coming off and new sleeves and
rings are going in next month. The CAV injection pump is leaking like a sieve as well, so thats getting a rebuild. All told I should have a
tractor good for another 40 years for $500 and a few hours of my time. It ran like a beast with only some power coming from 2 cylinders - it
will be awesome with all 3 working. Just finished cleaning and calibrating the injectors - that was another job that couldn't have been
easier.

Some have said that bleeding the fuel system was hard. I disagree as long as you follow the procedure in the manual. There are about 7
points where you need to bleed in order so that you logically remove the air from the fuel system. Tractor will start right up - skip a step
and not so much. Procedure works every time. Winter starts are easy with the preheat.

This machine has hooked me on the AC equipment and I will probably be looking for something in a 70-100 horse model next. Good luck, PSUAJ

I have my buddies 5050 in my shop right now with the CAV dumping fuel in the oil, thought I would pull the injectors too while the pump is off. Can you send me the procedure to get this thing primed, I have used many 4 letter words to get the thing going in the past. Also do you know where I can get injector seals?

Thanks
