Am looking to purchase a AC7000. I noticed that It grinds when shifting into gear when coming out of neutral. Once moving, everything shifts
smooth and no vibration or anything. My question is this just a clutch adjustment or is there a larger problem?
Thank You
Don

Early maroon belly like my brother has used a dry flywheel clutch, late black belly changed to the hydraulic clutch and a torque limiter in the flywheel. Both have a transmission brake, if it's not working right it will be hard to shift.

I am far from an AC expert. I do know that transmission and clutch issues on the 7000 series AC tractors can be costly to repair. With there lower value be careful and makes sure what the trouble is before you buy. You can easily end up with more in it than it is worth. They sell in the $3500-4500 range around here in full working order. ( Usually no AC working) LOL

Personal experience with an AC 7000. Landlord had one as his "big" tractor. I helped him do field work some times. That AC 7000 had the worst cab setup know to man. The gear shifter between your legs with a bend to make it easy to catch your foot on it. Then the stupid narrow doors with the steps angles the wrong way, made getting in and out of it a bear in winter work cloths.

I am somewhat of an expert on 7000 series tractors. If you weren't depressing the clutch pedal CLEAR DOWN TO THE FLOOR HARD, you weren't even applying the transmission brake. Also, where was the gearshift located??? Between your legs?? or the "T" handle on the right side?? Makes a difference on the clutch/trans brake set-up.

That tractor is the "wet-clutch" 7000 tractor. They have some issues in Winter weather with the trans brake not being quite strong enough to stop things from rotating due to the viscous drag of the oil between the clutch discs. A few minutes of warm up time usually solves the problem, that is, if the transmission brake is adjusted properly. It gets adjusted underneath the cab floor behind the fuel tank. The clutch pedal definitely has to be depressed as far down as it can go for the trans brake to stop things, especially with cold oil.

But what they do have is a 6 mph gear to mow in with 2 power shift gears slower. And a awsum motor. I have three friends that love them. One two years ago bought a new MF to replace his,7000, pulling a large rotary hay mower. He went back to the old 7000 says it just fits him. He is a pretty big guy. We had a.7040 was a bear getting in. But aftermarket steps helps. Helped our 4040 JD also.

If you are not an expert on the 7000, WHY did you bad-mouth it?? Possibly 1000's of them STILL earning a guy $$ to this day. I have heard the JD 4600 series cabs were HORRENDOUS, but I have no "hands-on" with them so I won't slam them.
