Wd 45 rear weights

I have two sets of rear weights for my wd45, what size and length bolt are y'all using to mount weights, how long to get through two weights and wheel , also anyone have any info on front weights for wheels, would like a pair, thanks Dusty
 
I've never tried to mount two weights at once. Seems like that could be quite a challenge. Plus, you would need some especially long bolts. I have a bunch of bolts here given to me, but I imagine you're far away.
 
I had two sets of weights on the 45 for years. First set used carriage 5/8 or 3/4. for the second weight in order to slip through both weights and still wedge through and around the final drive, I had to use a long 1/2 in with washer(s) on both ends. If you are
mounting both sets the same day, put a pair of bolts thru the first set to be ready to attach the second set before you use the other two holes to attach the first weight.
 
To mount two weights at one time take a bolt several inches longer than what you need cut the head off.run a nut up on the threads aways,stick the rest of the threads thru a weight hole
in the wheel center run a nut up on the back side get it all good and tight then move the tractor until the headless bolt is top dead center.Now you can slide a weight on the bolt,then the 2nd weight and then use two bolts in the 3 and 9 o'clock holes to secure the weight.Takes the straining and finger pinching out of the deal and if you have a tractor with a bale spear
no lifting required.
 
My first set of rears were held on with four 3/4"x 4" carriage bolts. When I went to put second set on I took out two of the carriage bolts
and used 3/4"thread rod 12"long because the longer carriage bolts that were needed would clear final drives going in from back side.I put
3/4" thread rod in from outside and threaded through back side just enough to get full nut and tightened tight. Then slip the second set of
weights on 3/4" threaded rod and tighten it down tight. I used heavy washers behind nuts and cut excess rod off and put brass acorn nuts
over the end threads. The picture is with just one set of weights. The front weights are not easy to find and I lucked when I got mine.The
guy I bought tractor from had a neighbor that had a set for sale but they are not cheap. They will cost you as much and if not more than a set
of rears.

I have 3 wheel weights on the back of my WD45.

The first weight takes a 3/4 x 3.5" carriage. For each additional weight add 2.5" per bolt. So 2 weights takes a 6" long bolt, and 3 weights takes 8.5"

I have 2 6" long bolts and 2 9" long bolts on mine. They fit past the final drives, you just have to put a couple through the bottom part of the hub, drive forward, then put in the last 2.

Put a nut on the carriage bolts first so they don't push out backwards. Leave that nut just a little loose or when you tighten it, your bolts will be out of alignment and not fit through the weight holes. I've put 2 on before with a friend and it's not too bad, you just have to keep pressure on the 1st weight while you put the 2nd in place. I tighten the 2 weights down, then I can put the 3rd on and off by myself as needed. Done it with a bale spear too.

THe front wheel weights are harder to find. Even harder to find are the special bolts used to mount them.
 
You can get the J bolts for fronts from DJS tractor parts. You can make them from carriage bolts by grinding a little off one side of head of bolt. My wheels were spun all the way in and I had it jacked up and could find any where that I could get longer carriage bolts to go through back side. I did have one set of weights on bolted with 2 bolts.

My wheels are all the way in too. Once a set of weights are on, you cant get the long bolts in. You have to take all the weights off, put in the long bolts, then put the weights back on.
 
You guys know the idea is 2 bolts per weight and you just keep adding bolts to the second from outside weight, right?

By myself to much work foor an old man with messed up back to take them all off. The 3/4" threaded rod worked out fine. I used a floor jack
to get them up high enough to get on.
 
Better to put on all the weights you want on at one time and run long enough bolt thru them all,that way its less bolts and if one get loose its simple enough to tighten them up.

If you run one weight per side, you simply put 2 bolts in the weight and bolt it down. For 2 weights per side, BEFORE you bolt the inner weight on, put 2 bolts through it for the next weight out. Then bolt it to the rim in the opposite holes. Bolt outer weight to inner weight with 2 bolts that were stuck through the inner. Keep slapping weights on, but the second from last has to have bolts put through it before it gets bolted on. The parts book shows a different bolt for the first weight vs the rest of them.
