Allis Chalmers B

I am looking to find different sizes of missing bolts. I think someone told me I need the Allis Chalmers B parts manual. If so where do I find one?

unless you are looking for a SPECIFIC bolt, you can get about everything you need in the hardware section of the Farm Store or local Hardware Store... Most bolts will be generic AMERICAN size. Normally the stores sell grade 2 ,5,8 ......The GRADE 5 bolts are adequate for most everything.. If you want manifold studs or head bolts, then get grade 8 or original.

(quoted from post at 13:06:12 02/21/18) The parts book does not list the size of the bolt, just the number for it.

Most of the part numbers refer to Allis supplied items only.
In many cases it is easy to find something satisfactory to replace it with anyway.

If the part number is in the 9XXXXX series, it is considered a "Standard Part" , not stocked by A-C and can be picked up locally.

A few years ago, I picked up an A-C manual titled:
[u:71bcf4d5bd]"Dealer Parts Catalog and Numerical Index for STANDARD PARTS"[/u:71bcf4d5bd]
It cross references the 9XXXXX part numbers to standard hardware items.
For Example, in the WD/WD-45 Parts Manual under water pump, the 6 bolts (caps screws) that hold the Cover on to the water pump has the number 916284. This translates to a 1/4" X 1/2" Cap screw - Hexagon Head, steel, heat treated NC-2, SAE grade 5.

It is a "not so easy" 3 step process to cross reference an item, but it provides the exact "Standard" part used for a specific purpose.
So, I say, if you have the old one in hand, it is much easier to take it to the hardware store and pick up a duplicate.
If you have the A-C part numbers for a few specific fasteners, etc. that you have no old one as a reference, I would be glad to look them up for you.

I've thought the same thing for 30+ years, but I just took a look in the back of the parts manual, quite by chance, and they do list the sizes and thread cross-referenced by the part number they show in the main part of the manual. It's the appendix labelled "Packaged Parts & Assemblies". Makes the manual a lot more useful.

To the OP, as far as new fasteners go, they work fine, but if you are a stickler for originality, you almost have to watch for those fellows on EBay that sell AC bolt collections. I just purchase from the local hardware store when they have the size I need, I prefer new fasteners, but they don't look right.
