VAC causing trouble

I have owned this VAC for 30 some years and now when I start out with it in any gear, even reverse, The left hand rear wheel acts as if it going over a 10 inch log. The brakes are not locked up, It seems as if it is a rear end problem. Any advise???? Thanks, Bill

I would make sure its not the brake. I had a broken spring on my VAC causing the brakes to self energize. If thats not it, I would pull the pto assembly, and look for an issue. If no luck, jack up the left wheel and spin it. Maybe a broken gear tooth wedged in the pinion gear? Good luck and let us know what you find. Nick

my pal rodney had the exact same thing ,.with his VAC 14 ,,.. nick mentioned the pinion gear ,, that is what it was , the gears had so much play they were barely contacting , consequently wore the teeth, but there was plenty wear left to be had down in the teeth ,.,. we shimmed it up correctly and all is well ,.seems that it came from factory that way ,.. been in the family 60 yrs ..Rodney recalls as a boy how the VAC would occassionaly lok the axle up ,. the next day,.it would pop loose and away it would go ..
