Been working on my 1896 off and on since spring. Today the sun showed itself for what seems like the first time in a month. I decided it was time to let it out of the shop as it is finished. Took a few pictures with my 4020 Ingersol as well.

is the 1896 more based on a david brown type tractor? the 2096 would have replaced a 2094 which was the smallest in the 94 series big tractors?

The 18 & 2096s were Case tractors. The first to have the CDC engine in them and an electronically controlled rps 34 tranny. Case was in the midst of changing the entire line into the 96 series, when the buy out of IH came along, and then the IH based Magnum tranny with CDC power came along.

WOW!!! Absolutely beautiful tractors! Thank you for sharing the pics. You don't see many 96 series that sharp............

I have always liked that color scheme the best of any. When we were dealers, we painted many 70 series trade-ins those colors also. A couple years back I painted the 990DB from the farm with the same format and had custom decals made. I came out real sharp. Wish I could find the pic.
You got a real nice looking 1896 there. They were very popular here.

Thanks guys for all the complements. To answer some of the questions; No Don L those are steps that I fabricated for a total of 15 bucks and my time. Tried everywhere to find originals with no luck so I decided to go this way. As for the questions on what a 1896 is. As Loren stated and what I will add is a 1896 is a 2094 rear end and transmission with the exception of the trans. input shaft. The trans. input shaft is substantially longer on the 1896 and the 2096 to compensate for the shorter 5.9 Cummins engine and the bell housing to adapt to the transmission. There posed a problem for me as I needed that shaft. This is a 1984 model tractor and CaseIH no longer makes that part. Again, I tried everywhere to locate a shaft with no luck. My plan B was to take a gear from a late model 1070 with the three holes in it and mate it to the original shaft. I had Omega Machine Tool Inc. in New Hampton Ia. machine the gear off the short 1070 shaft in a step design and had them machine the damaged gear off the long shaft in the opposite step cut. Then they mated and welded the two together to produce a strong, perfect shaft with no wobble or run-out. Turned out perfectly. So guys, if you have a late 1370, 1570, 2390 or 2590 that twists off the input shaft, don't throw away the gear. It has value and could be machined down to save a 1896 or 2096 from the bone yard as I saved this one from that fate. Everything on this tractor that needed repair has been repaired and every thing works perfectly along with new fluids and filters. I'm kind of anneal that way. The tractor is for sale! Dave

To Case addict.... I'm asking $19,995 for the tractor and I live near Decorah Iowa. That's in the NE corner of Iowa. (563-380-0180)
