Getting ready for deep tillage

Back in the day my Dad had a farm partner for a while, he had what we called a "chisel plow", but he called it a "deep tiller", anyway I need to do some for my potatoes

Thanks for the comments Tom, yes the I do love these 2, and cant wait to get on the other "930" and she will be the one on the chisel. Just ordering the parts and need to get started on seat.
Tom, its always good to see the old "1200" doing her thing with your "deep tiller" great picture

Hello Dan,

Nice setup, especially with the leveling tines. In this area that machine would properly be called a "stone finder". LOL Don

Up here chisel plows have generally been called "deep-tillage cultivators" while the lighter vibra-shank type are called "field cultivators" It's interesting to see different nomenclature applied to farm equipment depending on the area. "Sweep plows" had me stumped for awhile.

I don't think those shovels are "twisted" as cnt mentioned. They are what Dad called "beaver tails" and as Ande knows, I grew up not far (Rocklake) from where Ande lives now so he may refer to these shovels by that same terminology.

Your pretty close Ron, up here they are called 4" wraparounds, which you can flip the shovel around and its new again!

Guess I didn't realize Tom your comment until Ron pointed it out. Tom did you mostly use twisted out your way? Here it was the 4" wrap arounds because the twisted would bring up slabs and would make a mess.

No worries here Tom, but curious, you don't get slabing of the soil with the twisted ones, here it would come up probably 3' long slabs

I do not work ground that wet here Dan or I will have those slabs for the whole year in my more Gumbo soils anyway,, I am a high desert climate here not in the wet belt like you have lol
cnt

Yea Tom, some guys here don't have any choice when to work it here, as it never would get as dry as you might have it. So that sums it up
