450c crawler HLR recall has locked shifter

I need some honest opinions on how to handle a problem with some recall work on my 1977 Deere 450C Dozer. First of all I know it is old but it has worked flawlessly for the ten years I have had it. I occasionally had a problem with the machine moving while in neutral. This was not a big problem and it was something I easily worked around since it was so rare. However I had heard that Deere had a recall for this. I talked them and they said that sure they would fix it. When the work was done and I used the dozer afterward I had a hard time getting the dozer to move when I put it in low. It took about three times shifting from High to Low to get it to move. After about thirty minutes the shifter locked itself in low and would not shift anywhere. I told the Deere dealer who worked on it and they said not surprised and they suspected I might have problems because it is old and we put new parts on it. I asked them why they didn't tell me that there could be issues before they worked on it. They said they did not know until after the work was done. The mechanic even told the service writer when he came in from working on it that he thought I might have problems yet no one ever told me about this. Now I have gone from a perfectly usable and dependable machine to one that is not usable and the dealer says that Deere said that won't pay for any additional work. I suppose they mean under the recall program. So my thought is they should make it right and get it going again since that is the way it was and they did not advise me of the risk. I think I would be okay paying for parts but not labor. It's kind of like operating on an old lady without telling her of the risk and when the old lady has problems the doctor says "I was afraid there might be problems". I don't think that would fly. In addition I have a $2500 cost share payment I lose if I don't get my land clearing done by December 31. I'm also thinking the dealer should provide me a loaner if necessary to get this done if my dozer stays down. The dealer does rent them anyway. So what are some opinions? I want to be fair but I think they have some duty to inform me of potential problems before doing work. I probably would have opted out of the recall work. Just trying to be fair here. Thanks!

Good luck but I sure am glad I am not your dealer.. 30 yeas old and deer furnished un update. That has to be a record... And just for the record I have been a dealer for the last 38 years, Different brand and I can see where your argument comes from.. just a bad situation for you both I guess.

The linkage on that shifter can be adjusted. Could it be that simple?

That's kind of what I'm hoping. I can see that they replaced the linkage from the shifter to the transmission and I don't know what else they did. They are supposed to take another look this week and see what they can do. So far they are saying that when you add new parts to an old crawler you may have problems and there is nothing they can do about it. My stance is that it did fine for ten years the THEIR recall work messed it up. They have a duty to leave it in at least as good of workable shape as it was when they worked on it and not leave it unusable.
