207 Case Engine Rebuilt

I just finished rebuilding my 207 Case Engine , complete rebuild , new pistons , liners , crank redone , head , cam bearings , crank turned 20 20 , injection pump rebuilt . My question , what oil is best to break new rebuilt engine in . I always use Shell Rotella 15w 40 in all my Case equipment . Your replies are welcome and Thanks in Advance .

I agree with you Bill, that's the oil we use at my place for everything diesel, never had a problem with it.

If the engine will see a lot of light work and idle time the best oil I have found for break-in under those conditions is JD Break-in oil. It is a 10w-30 oil and can be
run in for approx 50 hr or so and then use your normal oil of choice. If the unit operates in warm temps and gets worked my oil of choice would be CIH HDM 30w. Oils have
improved since CASE engines were produced, but they never did recommended any multigrade oil for use in them that I am aware of. Their Ag units were ship new with a
straight 20w motor oil. Rod.

Thanks AJ I wanted to hear that from you , I am going with Shell Rotella 15w 40 , I have had good results with that oil in my other Case Tractors , I bought this 450B 3 years ago in not running condition , found out the engine had too be rebuilt and now it is finished and I will put oil in crank case tomorrow .

All my work is hard , use my 450's as a D6 or 955 take huge trees down and pile heavy brush into large piles , I know I put a lot of strain on my tractors but have to please my customers and get the job done . This 450B I bought 3 years ago has never ran for me , the shell oil I use in two other 450's and 580C has never had any engine problems , thank for your input .

Rod, I agree with you, and that is what I have understood regarding oil used in the engines. We used 20w in the 1030's in the late fall, and #30 weight in the summer.

My understanding of Rotella, this was designed for engines running in trucks

I have a friend that has one hundred Excavators , Bulldozers , Loaders and Trucks , he uses only Shell 15-40w Rotella and has never lost an Engine .
