Pedal Swing 580e

A friend is looking seriously at a 580e Case. It has pedal swing instead of joysticks. He is medically disabled due to a work injury to his spine. He has just bought land and is planning to be his own GC, and do most of the dirt work onsite himself with this hoe. I wonder will he be able to run the pedal swing for say 4 hours a day for a few weeks or will it be likely to get too painful?

If he has spine problems, he needs to find someone to do it.

I doubt he will sit in that or any machine very long.
It's hard enough just mounting and dismounting when your
Physically impaired.

I admire his spirit for wanting to have a go and seeing he has the hoe and the land I see no harm in him giving it a try as long as he is sensible and not try to push it too much, even been fully mobile it can be tiring sitting on a machine all day,the only danger that comes to mind is working alone, that's a bad idea for anyone, stop the machine, lower the equipment and set the brake so he can get off and on safely,
Good luck to Him

he should realty run it for a while as a test to see what indurance he has--every one is different--I have had 3 spine surgerys so far and certain machines I can run twice as long as my brother can---the worst for me is grading with my tractor and twisting around to see the 3pt blade constantly

It should not be too hard to get a conversion kit to make it a "John Deere style two stick control". I have seen a number of Case backhoes done that way. I have done other
modification to Case controls to three of my Case backhoes over time.

We went today to look at it and try it out. When he tried the pedals he thought that he could get along with them OK. however we found enough things wrong that need repair that he decided that he didn't really want it, so he made a low offer which was refused. He has another one to look at and now that he saw some things to check and how to do it, he can go by himself.

Sorry I misunderstood when I first replied I did not realise he had not bought the machine, the 580E came with wobble levers as well the SK came with servo levers as an option that would probably suit him better, the SK is a better machine all-round,stronger backhoe, better transmission & brakes, reliable workhorse that was very popular with owner drivers, the problem with them is they hold their price very well, lots to choose from on Machinery Trader.
