JD 1010 CRAWLER

I have a jd 1010track loader with a broken reverser cable can the reverser cable from a jd 350be somehow be used? Right now I've pulled the cable out of the dash with a vise grip on the broken cable and shift with that. What a pain! There is a factory plate on it on the right pod in front of the hydraulic lever that says (JOHN DEERE 1010 MODEL 810 S/N: 7752 ) any help? The local jd dealer told not to bother him with it. Nice right!
Thanks

I bought one for my 1010 a couple of years ago.At the time it was around $56.I'm not even sure a 350 uses a cable, for some reason I'm thinking it has steel rod linkages,I would have to take a look if I remember when I walk by it.Changing that cable in my 1010 made it a pleasure to operate.I think you need to talk to another dealer.I always buy parts books for my machines,I can look things up and double check.I can call the number in to the dealer and they can tell me how much and how long to get it.

Thanks, I had forgotten about Thill track and tractor. I had done business with them about 30 years ago for my D4. I called when I saw your link and now I have a new cable on the way. I asked about the 350 cable and they think maybe the early 350's had the cable and then switched over to the linkage.

Can any one tell me where to find the S/N on my 1010 crawler? I
just heard from JD and they told me to look by the door, but
it's an old open machine that doesn't have doors.

1010 Serial Numbers:
Location: Plate on the engine block, behind/ below the generator right side, should include " I ", if it is original to the tractor. Ag tractors did not come with the reverser ..

1960: 10001
1961: 13692
1962: 23630
1963: 32188
1964: 43900
1965: 53722
Final: 57312

Thank you, that's what I needed to know. I went out and checked right away and found the plate is missing. All this to get a new set of points. Any suggestions?

Their should be a tag on the distributor. If not you can look up the tractor at the free " JD online parts " web site. PC0727 1010 tractor. They used 3 different distributors
Delco-Remy pages 213/217 through 216/220, Wico page 217/221 and Prestolite page 218/222
If that does not pan out try taking the points to the oldest NAPA dealer if you have one, they probably can check in the old paper books and find a new set for you by comparison. You may not be able to get parts for the Wico, I could not find them for mine and ended up buying a Delco-Remy replacement.

That was my next question, no matter what distributor can I pull it out and put in a Delco no matter which one is in there now?
Thanks

es, according to the JD parts manual the original Del-co-Remy was "AT13766" and has been superseded several times. Google that number and you will find an array of replacements ..
