Caterpillar D6 weight

What would a pony start D6 with the old cable operated blade weigh? Best I can find is about 17k lbs, but I have a feeling that is without the blade.
I am looking to get either a D4 or maybe a D6 for farm use. My trailer can safely haul 18k lbs. Is an old D6 just too big?

Am I correct in assuming that a pony start D4 with a blade would be about 10-12k lbs?

I would guess the D6 would be closer to 22,000 lbs., with blade. The D4 could be in the 14,000 range. The thing is saying D4 and D6 can cover a number of machines. They were built for many years, with ever increasing weights. The weights varied with the actual model and the blade they were equipped with. Having the full model and serial number of what you are looking at will get you better answers.

This is a photo of the tag in the ad for a D6 I am looking at. It s a poor photo, but I think it starts with 9N.

Here is the listing I am looking at. The undercarriage looks decent to me and he says it works as it s supposed to.

D6 Cat Dozer

It is about 150 miles from me.

The only D6 I can recall with 9 serial # was the 9U, there were two D6's of the same era 47 to 59 the 8U 60" and the 9U 74", they both came with a range of blades and could be cable or hydraulic, if the seller has the parts books for the tractor and whatever equipment is attached to them the weights is usually in the back of the books, here in the UK we always classed a D6 as being 10 tons which is 22400 lbs and the D4 6.5 tons which is 14560 lbs, your trailer would be OK with the D4 but with the D6 it would be close to a quarter over.

The tag on our D6 9U reads over 24,000 lbs with cab and winch. The pervious said he pulled it with a double or triple axle dump truck with a triple axle trailer and pulled it a few miles, I wouldn't do 150 miles.

According to the performance handbook a 9U
with 16 pads is 17,760 shipping weight. A
25CCU (winch) is right around 1,800-1,900
lbs and 5S dozer blade is very similar
would be around 3,400 lbs.

Thanks all. I guess a D6 is just a little too big. Ill stick with looking for a D4. That should do everything I need. I just keep seeing D6s for about the same price as a decent D4.
