1965? Clark Forklift

I'm only guessing it's 1965 by pictures on the web but I have no idea what model it is.
Trying to give my new (to me) forklift a tuneup. I put new plugs in it but I don't know what cap and rotor it needs. I am assuming it's a continental engine 4 cylinder flat head. I'm trying to figure out the right firing order. It originally was set up as 1243 which did run but wouldn't get full RPMs and was running pretty rough. On the top of the head it has a firing order of 1342 but was way worse that way. The engine code has 5967 but each digit was crossed out and another number stamped next to it, 0368. The cap has a big crack in it which probably doesn't help and the plug wires are junk. But each cylinder is firing and noticeable when you ground out each plug.
It has the forward and reverse and fork controls on the steering column, if that helps any.
Does anyone know what engine this is?
I will also need to find out what fluids it needs.
For sure old school antifreeze.
Has ATF but not sure what type.
ISO 46 or 32 hydraulic fluid ?
And so on.
Thanks, any help will be greatly appreciated !

It will help to narrow down the motor if you can post the forklift model and some pictures. Is the data tag still on it? Pictures of the engine and distributor may help. Look for a tag on the distributor, it could be one of several brands.

1342 should be the firing order. #1 must be in the right location in the cap and the firing order goes in the direction the rotor turns. A crack in the cap certainly is not good.

There are no ID tags anywhere. That would be too easy.

We had a 64 model at the mill, my friend still has it
It s been a while since I worked on it but I m pretty sure the points condenser, rotor button and cap are GM 4 cylinder from that time period

The outside of the distributor looks like a Prestolite to me. post a picture with the cap off the distributor that clearly shows the points. I am thinking it is a Continental engine.

I believe that is a Prestolite distributor and a Continental 4 cylinder Flat head engine. Take your old parts to a parts store and here are some part numbers you can try matching to yours. These are Standard Motor Products part numbers and your store may have to cross them to what they sell.

Cap: AL481
Rotor: AL167
Condenser: AL118X
Points: AL5486P

See if those match up to the ones on your distributor.

I'll have the BIL look at the pictures when he get over here. He just retired last year, was a hyster mechanic for over 30 years. did a lot of work on Clark. He is my go to guy when ever I need any info about hydraulics.

I just got off the phone with BIL, he said you can use anything from # 32 to 68 ISO fluid, he said they run them all. BUT make sure filter is clean and fluid that is in there clean.

John, said Clark crosses out engine manufacturers number and stamps their own number on engine. he said by law there has to be serial number, and nomenclature number on the machine, and possibly a Waukesha motor. Clark used a lot of them..

It has a cage for the operator, I do not think that is as old as you think it is. Clark still makes forklifts, I think that you could get parts for that at a
dealer, probably get manuals for it as well. good luck

Someone needs to explain how to post pics. I have to switch between classic and modern view. Also how to dleat a post.

I don't think you can delete a post to the extent it doesn't show you made a post. You can delete the content, but the post box will remain with the note that it was edited. Editing can only be done in the Modern view.

Posting pictures is about the same in both Modern and Classic. Scroll down the page a bit, for where you type your response, to the section that says Upload Photos/Videos. Use the chose files button below that to find the file in your device and upload it.

Did the points, condenser, and rotor match? That would be a starting point. Is there by chance a small tag under the clipand screw on the side we cannot fully see? That is where the ID tag is often located on Prestolite distributors.

What about the tab at the yellow circle? Rotate the cap 180 and the tabs appear to be in the right spot. How did they compare in diameter, height, clip locations in relation to the terminals, etc.? I wouldn't worry about a vent slot if it doesn't interfere with anything.

There is no where to add a photo in modern view.

I can type a response only in classic view.
In modern view I can however reply or quote a post.

ORileys got the cap in for me but I didnt bring it home because it was slightly smaller in diameter than the original. I dont recall there being a tab in the yellow circle, or at least
anything that looked like the original. I didnt go any further with the points or condenser or rotor.
There is no tag under the clip bands or anywhere on the distributor. No rivet holes or any sign of a tag that was glued on.

And so the mystery continues
I will call a Clark dealership Monday and see what I can figure out.

BTW in the pic I am logged in. My iPhone X shows the same thing. Maybe this forum doesn't like Mac.

While it may be the cap that is on the distributor currently, I do not believe the distributor cap in your picture is an original (OEM) cap. Different cap makers make them different colors, and with other little changes, so they may not look exactly identical in all aspects.

Below is a picture of the Modern view screen I see after I click the Reply (or Quote) Button at the upper right corner of a post like you show in your picture. You should be able add pictures to your reply in modern using the Choose Files button which is right under the red Upload Photos/videos bar, which is the second red bar down the page from the Post a Reply box (where you type your reply).
