JCB 3CII DIESEL TANK

Hi
I have an old JCB 3CII.It works well but, after forty years filling out of barrels, the diesel tank needs cleaning out; as it is continually air-locking. Unfortunately I have no Manual and I do not know how to get in to the tank! I have cleaned out machines before and there is usually a bleed screw and a plate to undo; but I cannot find it on this one! Does anyone have any suggestions as it appears there is no access?
Regards.

Them old JCB"s did not have a drain plug, the only outlet from the tank was the bottom left sitting behind the steering wheel, there was a nipple there that the fuel pipe connected to,there was a breather on the top left just in front of the windscreen, that breather could be blocked and causing a vacuum,it was a very bad design the later machines did have a plate, the way I used to clean them was take off the fuel pipe and blow out the tank with a road compressor having parked the machine with the back a bit higher than the front and the right a bit higher than the left, after you blow it out pour in a few gallons of diesel and let it drain out and that should take any dirt with it.

Hi AJ

Thanks for that advice. I had crawled underneath the machine, examining everywhere for the access plate; it eventually dawned on me that there may not be one.

You are right that it is a bad design; especially as the outlet is on the underside of the tank.

I had thought about drilling out a 3" hole near the lift pump and then plugging it again with a four inch drain plug but I haven't come across
anyone who has done anything similar before.

However I may try your suggestion first.

Regards
