IH 856 hydraulics

We determined a week ago that I need to change my MCV assembly on my IH 856.

The manual refers to a 9 GPM pump but I see pumps offered that have 12 GPM. Is it critical that the pump have the exact GPM? Would a higher GPM damage the system?

Also, can I safely use Tractor Supply's "Premium Hydraulic Tractor Fluid" or do I have to use the "Hy-Tran"?

Thanks,

Gary

A new 9 gpm pump will suffice. It was good enough when new, good enough now.I think the 12gpm pump is for the newer tractors. The higher gpm will just bypass the system.. all the guys say you must use Hitran. I suppose it is better.....But I don't have a source for that within 300 miles/ JD Hygard is a good subistute. However,I have used tractor supply oil for years and have had or seen no ill effects. My tractors(1256;826Hydro;706;SH;Sm.......) are all used 300 to 500 hrs per year.

Should say on the bucket if it meets JD and IH specs. I have used the after market brands for years with no problems in all my tractors.
