IH 574 Steering ?

Working on a IH 574 tractor, when the front tires reach the maximum travel in the left or right position the steering wheel continues to turn around and around. Is this normal ? If not what is allowing this to occur. I have little knowledge with IH tractors of this vintage, so any information about this would be helpful.
Thanks in advance.. Jo

My 584 will not do as your is doing so I would say you have a problem in the steering motor as they are called. My 584 got real hot as in burnt and the steering motor leaks a bit of oil due to that but still works just fine

Hi, when front wheels hit the max left or right stop, the steering wheel should be difficult to turn and you should hear the PS
relief valve buzzing. The only time I have seen the steering wheel free wheel is when there was air in the system.

It would be a problem in the hand pump. That is the part under the dash that the steering wheel is connected to.I would check with a hydraulic shop that rebuilds them. They are complicated to do.Mark
