I am needing a governor spring for my farmall A Not wanting to have to order one online so looking for other options I have read of people buying them at tractor supply and Napa just not sure what size I need Anyone possibly know a part number from one of those stores with the correct size spring Thanks

You will not find one any other place but i-h or a vender that sells them cause the length and tension must be original or it just will not work correct

Too strong a spring can cause engine to surge because strength has a big part of governor sensitivity. Of course speed settings may exceed the available limits on adjustments. Too weak a spring will cause low speeds and doggy governor action. Will any spring that fits work, well yes, but not the way it is supposed to. Need correct spring.

Steiner has them...

The other posts are correct - it really needs to be the correct spring to work properly.

The correct spring is still available at your FIAT/dba CIH dealer.

Part # 46944DA, at about ten bucks.

Unless your are looking for a trial and error or engineering project and have lots of time, go ahead and fiddle with generic springs 'til you find one that sort of works, or just simply spend $10 for the correct one that will work the first time.

I have used a couple of different length springs with no problems at all. Usually if the engine is surging its the stop adjustment in the governor that is not adjusted correctly. I think I have a spring in my A from a C or super C. I dont think is statement is accurate
