Mccormick 200 manure spreader

Today i dug out my grandpa's manure spreader. Been burried since 1984, durring the process of lifting and dragging it out the top bracket got bent. Was thinking of heating it up and straightening it but if you all know whre i can buy the piece it would be great. I looked on ebay and didnt see any parts. Im not sure what that bar does besides act as a support. Eventualy im going to restore it and take it along to tractor shows, as i realy have no use for it but keeping it as my great grandpa bought it new.

Here is a picture of it. Hope it works.

All the bracket does is provide support for the sides. Don't know the best way to pull it up into shape, but I'd try a large tree limb & chain hoist or other suitable means to pull it back up. May require a load in the spreader to hold it down. It isn't all that thick of steel as I remember, but it is a piece of formed u-steel, & can be pretty tough. Most of these channels got rusted out from not being cleaned after use.
Dad always loaded our spreader too full, & the load would get caught on that bar.

IH RED: If you can remove the piece from spreader you may be able to straighten it with hammer...might have to "soften" it up some with heat. I would be hesitant to try to do that on the spreader for fear of knocking/pulling something else outta line...and you will find it easier to work on the concrete floor than in the air. Might need something to lay in/under channel to "block" it in place to keep from getting it too badly mishapened as you are getting it back closer to the desired form. Might also consider cutting it carefully somewhere towards the middle... and after straightening you can weld it back. The near side bend may be a bit of a challenge, but with time and patience you can work that out also. Do as much as you can with as little heat as you can avoid. An extra set of hands may come in handy especially if you try to do it one piece.

Straightening metal can be a challenge, but takes time and patience. Have fun and good luck!!

Would like to hear how you come out with problem...possibly with an "after" photo.

Good luck

Rick

I have some NOS parts for the 200 spreader, but not the cross bar you need. Most of the parts I have are for the drive mechanism. So let me know if you need anything.
