Farmall H Transmission

Today was disking in 1st gear and out of no where the tractor stopped dead in its tracks and began stalling. I pushed in the clutch and it ran fine. I cannot get it to move anywhere. Even in neutral when I begin letting the clutch out it begins stalling out like it"s locked up or under an extreme load with no motion anywhere. All gears and neutral do the same thing. Does anyone know what is going on? My guess is somethings locked up in the transmission. I"m quite mechanical but have never had the transmission apart on this. Would it be in my best interest to pull off the deck plate and have a look inside? Please advise, Thank you.

Stalls the engine in gear AND in neutral.... I'd do what the other guy says and pull the belly pump and check all the clutch connections first. That's easiest.

However, I doubt your problem lays outside the trans. Pull the belt pulley or delete cover and look inside. You'll see the input shaft, the sliding gears, and part of the countershaft assembly. When in neutral, the only things turning are the input shaft assembly, counter (bottom) shaft and reverse idler.

No need to remove unit, just the drive coupling unless you find the problem is it. In case something is jamed between gear teeth you could try putting the pto in gear and see if it will turn the opisite way from normal. Still would need to correct problem though. Another thing to check after removing whatever is covering belt pulley drive opening, is where main shaft goes into input shaft. See if any of the rollers from bearing have came out and jamed gears or see if main shaft will move up and down very much inside input shaft.

even thou you were in moving at the time it sure does after the symptoms you describe that it actually got caught in two gears. i would just check to see if in neutral to pull the shifter and see if the shifter forks are not right. the only reason i say this you say it does it in nuetral and it sound to me its stuck in gears.
