Which Magneto is it?

I was going to pick up some more parts for the '40 H and got to a sticking point.

I "thought" it had an H4 magneto but when I looked at the magneto I didn't see H4 on it.. or H anything..

I saw..
6237-d
F
1

Does that mean its an F1 magneto (which I haven't seen listed in tune up parts yet).

I don't remember if the H4 is on them. 6237D is not part of the mag, it fits in front of the mag or distributer and contains the drive mechanism. Very likely you have an H4. This particular number was not used until 1947, though. But, it must fit yours.

Where do I look on Mag to see which it is.. Or is there an easy way to identify an h versus an f4 (the only 2 I saw listed in tune up parts section).

If it is an IHC magneto, you will see the IHC logo on the mag, then it has to be an H4. The "H4" is stamped on a flat spot on the side of the mag just before the serial number.

Perfect description..

I just went outside the looked at the magneto section (not the drive section), found the flat spot a viola.. it said H4 right in front of the s/n..

Thanks for clearing that up..
