My H has sat up all winter till 2 days ago. Got it fired up, but the throttle no longer works. The engine is running about mid range, and I cant speed it up or slow it down.
The throttle is intact and DOES move the arm where it goes into the box infront of the carb.

Anyone know whats wrong? What will happen if I pull the cover off the throttle box? Is there anything that will leak or fall out? What the heck is in there anyway?

Thanks for any help!

Frank, It should be safe to pull the cover unless you have had a terrorist, do you know anyone with a bomb sniffing dog? Otherwise all that is in there should be weights a spring and linkage to the carbuerator. It might be that something is binding or the spring may have broke. Good luck, Chuck

First of all the box in front of the carb is actually called the governor . You can take the cover off of the governor. There is no oil that will come running out. Some times the weights hang up or if worn enough can hit the sides of the box and stay there.Take it apart and watch to see what happens. The tube that runs from the carb that actuates the butterfy in the carb could be hung up also. Nuff said Henry

The link to the governor from the hand lever needs to be checked first, It should move the curved lever on the governor full from one end of its travel to the other, JimN

Thanks for the info guys. I will open it up tomorrow....pray for me :). I'm not overly mechanical, but have been able to do most things on this tractor myself.

I just thought it was odd that it worked fine when I parked it for the winter, and now it doesnt work. Hopefully it is something simple like something stuck and some wd40 will fix it up.

Thanks again!

Thanks for yalls help. I pulled the cover and watched while my son worked the throttle lever. It looks like the spring is worn out. I took a piece of tie wire and tied it through the spring and regained some throttle control. It worked for a short term fix.
Now I need to find a replacement spring.
