How many of you recognized 180 N. Michigan Ave., Chicago, Illinois? I noticed on my original Owner’s Manual for my 47 H Farmall that address some time ago. I did not know that was the corporate headquarters for International Harvester Company until I bought the tractor a few years ago. I am from Kentucky and did know about the Louisville plant. I know people who worked there. I was in Chicago last week and decided to see what was at that address. I found the building and asked the security guard if he knew the history of the building. He said it was the headquarters for the International Harvester Company. I ask him if there was anything in the building from the past and he said only the elevator doors and the stairwell. I ask him if I could look around and he said ok. I walked up the stairs and thought about all the history and decisions made there in the past. He said it had been remodeled twice. The building had the same address and I suppose looked the same on the outside. It made me wonder if any of you have been there.

was there once, a second grade teacher in our school was the Daughter of an IH exec, we where down there at the Sun Times/Daily News for a feild trip, she walked us across the street and down the block to visit her dad. The only thing I remember was they had A IH travelall and a cub cadet in the lobby, maybe some other stuff. He must of been an AG guy 'cause when I asked him who their biggest competitor was he said John Deere- oh well this was before we moved and I started messing around with cows and tractors

they also has operations in melrose pak, near ohare airport, and in burr ridge il, burr ridge had test farms and pretty sure they did a lot of research and testing there. i remember in the 60's and early 70's, i-h would loan a tractor and implement to the farmers around us to use and abuse, generally primary tillage setups. theyd run em 24/7 to get ready for planting, all you had to do was put fuel in em. kind of a real world test for the equipment.
