FARMALL 200 STARTING PROBLEMS

My brother got a 56' Farmall 200 from my grandpa and it ran good and never missed until one day we went to start it and it never even fired. We made sure the gas was on and there was fuel in the carb. So after further reveiw we discovered that it would fire once or twice and that would be it on starting fluid, otherwise it wouldent start at all. We replaced the ignition switch and the battery cable and made sure it was grounded good, we also changed the starter and we still didnt get anything. After that we rebuilt the carb cleaned the fuel lines and the tank, and still nothing. So now I'm wondering whats left to do. I checked the timing and the plug wires and there were they should be. It also has a new tune up kit in it.

You need to make sure you're getting gas into the carburetor. If that carb has a plug in the bottom remove it and hold a clean container under it to catch the gas. Should have a full stream of gas.
If it doesn't unhook the gas line at the carb and check it for a full stream. If that's ok, remove that tube fitting where your gas line came off. Be careful you don't crush the fitting. Look for a screen behind that fitting. It could be blocked with rust & crud. Hold your hand over the throat of the carb and see if there's good suction on your hand. The tractor may start
if the ignition is on. I would remove all the sparkplugs and squirt engine oil into each plug the crank over the engine and shoot some more oil in there and replace the plugs. If there's not much suction on your hand is a sign there's not very good intake manifold vacuum. This is needed to suck that gas into the engine. Low vacuum could be worn sleeves, rings and valves not seating. A compression check will tell you what shape the engine is in. Hal

How did you check the timing? Are you sure your getting spark at each plug? You can pull the plugs out and hold each plug against the engine block one at a time and see if your getting a good, bright blue spark as you turn the engine over. Dave.
