Super C generator

The generator on my Super C is not charging, so I took it apart and found the armature is worn. Can I turn it down that much to get a smooth surface? Or should I get a different armature? I have a good armature out of an H or M generator, question is, can I use it? The second picture shows the two armatures, bottom one is from the Super C, top from the H/M generator.

Turning it down till true is OK. Use a piece of hacksaw blade to undercut the space between the segments about a thirty second of an inch. None of the segments should read conductivity to ground. Segments opposite of each other should be Zero Ohms.

Trying the other armature is just fine. Unless it is different in diameter, it will do the job. It cannot hurt anything unless it rubs on something. JimN

I've seen armatures that still charged which were a lot worse than yours. Are you sure that the armature is at fault here & not something else?

No, I am not sure. I have never really messed with generators much. With the tractor running, I touched my multimeter leads to the generator posts and it showed about 1/2 volt.
