super a piston size

Hi, I have a super a with serial number 352230 and engine number 354898 r2. If I am understanding the posts correctly I could go up to a 3 1/4 bore, is this correct? If so what does the majority suggest, 3 1/8 or 3 1/4 Also how do I order the kit? Do I order one for a super c, or one for a 123 engine. Its kind of confusing. Are the Tisco kits as good as the rest, or should I go with Clevite. I'm open to any suggestions. Thanks Mark

You just need to buy a kit for a Super A above Serial Number 310300. It will be the same as a Super C Kit. You cannot put a Normall Super A kit into that tractor because the sleeves are bigger (3 7/16" at the seal rather than 3 5/16"). I have a Super A that is really close in Serial numbers to yours and it has the same engine.

And you need Part# IK122 for an inframe Kit for that tractor or Part #OK122 for an Out of Frame Kit.

Mark: I'll put it this way, if your parts guy can't pick the right set with only the block part number, he's not qualified for his job.

You can get 3", 3-1/8" or 3-1/4" bore for the 354898 R1 or R2 blocks.

Would you use 3 1/8 or go to 3 1/4. Should I add a water pump? With or without water pump is the radiator big enough. Thanks in advance, Mark

Mark: Your SA is late enough at serial number 352230 that most upgrades getting ready for C-123, in transmission, final drives, etc., have been done. SA received a lot of upgrades in the 340xxx range. There are a lot of older ones out there with C-123 specs, however one can feel comfortable that yours will stand up to 3-1/8" or even 3-1/4" bore.

I would add the water pump, you will encounter close quarters installing an inline thermostat. That is the biggest benefit of the taller radiator, gives more room for the thermostat. Some folks run them without thermostat, and partially cover grill if tractor runs too cool. A set of shutters would do the same if you can find them. I'm sure there are guys on here that have successfully installed a thermostat.

I know on my 130, top hose is long enough I can change thermostat without disturbing radiator. I'm sure if I had the same on my SA, I'd have to lift the rad to change thermostat.
