Farmall H tranny lube

My IH dealer's literature from IH recommends the thin Hy-tran rather than 80W-90 or 85W-140 I was going to use. I know the literature is official IH from the 90's, but what are some of your opinions?

Has anyone else used Hy-tran in an old H? Mine is a 1940 model and is a bit noisy.

Thank you!

Any of those will work just fine. One problem with hy tran in those older machines is seepage from the old gaskets. I used to use hy tran in an old M that I mainly used as a chore tractor in the winter. Worked good for me. Most people will use one of the heavier type of lubes. my .02 of a buck.

Hy-tran will make it noisier yet!
Unless you plan to use it on a -40 snowy winter day, the heavier lube will be just fine. Even then you just need to let the clutch out SLOWLY to get things moving. BTDT many times.
