Farmall C starter flywheel replacement

I need to replace the starter ring gear on my farmall C, do I need to split the tractor?
Thanks

You will need to split it. a days work to do a half-hour repair. You might want to think about replacing your throwout bearing as long as you've got it apart.

Splitting is more tedious than difficult, what with getting things like fuel line, governor linkage, hydraulics (if you have them), wiring and the like disconnected and back together.

The split itself isn't that bad but requires care in making sure everything is well supported. Cross-stacked wooden blocks are best. Jack stands extended to their full height are bad. If it's a wide-front tractor, you'll need to wedge the front wheels against the steering so that they won't turn. Maybe somebody will chime in with a good description (or pictures!) of how that's done.

Another excellent idea! Seems like there's been more than the usual number of folks around here lately with problems of that sort lately.

After you get it apart you can probably just flip the gear and put it back on. Mine was only worn on one side.

Make sure you heat it before you try to drive it off, otherwise you"ll break the lip off of the flywheel.
