Removing Brake Shaft

Hello, To remove the brake shaft the pedals connect to and pivit on, do you just need to tap it out of the transmission housing? or is there anything holding it back inside the transmission. My parts manual shows nothing there, but what is the best way to remove it??

Don't know. Not bustin' on ya, just tyrin' to help. Your post didn't say what the tractor was (I searched the archives to see what you might be workin' on) and thought you might get more and better responses if we knew what the tractor was.

Remove the brake pedals, the clutch pedal, and the half moon key for the left brake pedal, and pull the shaft out. You may need to slide the rear wheel out on the axle to give enough room.

Sorry about that, I just assumed that the prosses was the same for the H, M Super M, Super M, 400, 450, 300 and 350.

The shaft will come out easy but unless the original seals have been replaced the originals were a double seal and sometimes a beech to get out. CIH sells a single for replacement. While you have the shaft out it's a good time to repair the clutch wear grooves if it has them.

The process is the same at least through the 560, probably later than that. Sometimes those keys are stuck pretty good, otherwise the shaft slides right out.

Thanks for all the help, I did get it out and have started to get the oil seals replaced. The old rod had worn so bad around the clutch area that it must be replaced as with the clutch pedal. Thanks for the help!
