Farmall H with a loader

Howdy,
I back with another value question about H"s. I found an H with a front loader I forget what company made the loader. I think I would need to rebuild the carb, but it started alright. The steering was very tight, no slop at all. The rear tires were weather checked but held air and they weren"t missing any rubber. (I"ve seen some where you could see the nylon cords) Fronts and rears probably had 85-90% tread. Pto shaft worked and so did the pulley drive. The shafts on the front loader had some rust spots on them. The tractor needed to be sanded down and repainted, the paint was very bad. It also had the cultivator plate and rear wheel weights. The clutch was sticky when we first started to mess with it, (its been sitting out in the rain and weather) but we were able to free it by depressing the clutch several times. Once we had it running it started a little rich, but burned no oil at all, it didn"t over heat and had good oil pressure. The engine only missed once, and it was while it was being throttled down. All the gears worked and there was no excessive noise out of the transmission. Brakes seemed a little mushy but were responsive. So my question is: is this tractor worth $1600, and with my description do you think its field ready?

There really is no way of knowing if it is field ready until you actually put it in the field and give it a workout, although if the tractor is as described I'd say it would be a good candidate. If the loader is a run of the mill trip bucket variety, it has very little monetary value, and really adds nothing to the value of the tractor. If the loader is a more modern version with a hydraulic bucket, then the loader could be worth more than the tractor.

As far as the asking price, if the loader fits the first description, the asking price is maybe a bit high. Make an offer of $1,000 and see where it goes.

Yeah its just a run of the mill trip bucket. I will call the guy up ans see what he says to $1,000 but I doubt that will go to far with this guy.

He can ask any amount he wants, and if it is too much, the tractor will sit right there for a long time. I've seen Hs that I knew were field ready and looked really good sell for less.

I bought my last H, running, with another complete non running tractor, for $650.00, the model 31 loader I bought for it, paid $102.50 for it, and it is in decent shape with a dirt scoop on it. Had to put $40.00 worth of hydraulic hoses on the loader. The tractor had decent paint, runs OK, had to replace the manifold gasket. I agree with Rusty Farmall, offer him $1000.00, if he does not agree to something in that range, I would keep looking. there is one in the picture ads on here the guy wants $1000.00 for, in Illinois, it runs good, don't look too bad, and he is having a hard time getting that price.
