need help on 560d injectors

I'm trying to get my 560d running after a rebuild.I've pull started it but I have fuel coming from injector nozzles and the injectors in the head.I put new washers and o-rings in from the rebuild kit.I pulled the injectors but not the cone below it.I've been told the pump may be out of time. That is possible as the timing mark on the pump is dang near non-existant.Any ideas how to time it without the mark? Also valve lash is set at.027 cold.Any info is greatly appreciated.ARKIE

The exterior timing lines on the pump housing and adapter are there only to get you close. The actual timing should be set using the internal timing marks and the marks on the front crank pulley.

Turn the engine crankshaft clockwise when looking at it from the front. Stop when the pointer on the front cover is in line with the correct degree of timing advance. With the fuel shut off at the tank, remove the timing cover on the side of the pump. The scribe marks should be aligned. If you only see one scribe line, rotate the crankshaft one complete revolution. If the marks are not aligned, rotate the pump housing until they are. If you had to move the pump, rotate the crankshaft two revolutions and recheck the timing. Readjust and rotate until the are aligned after turning the crankshaft.

Once you have the timing set you can use a chisel to remark the pump housing and adapter so you will not have to do the internal check again if you have to R&R the pump again.

Thanks for input guys.I think maybe I wasn't clear enough on my explaination of my problem.I know how to time the pump but the scribe mark mentioned in the timing cover on the gear side is not very clear.I tried to lightly polish the surface to reveal the line but that didn't help.I was hoping there was a way to get closer on my timing by watching the injectors or something and maybe the scribe mark would more apparent. The wheel the scribe mark is on has scratches and it's pretty much a crap shoot to which scratch is the scribe mark. Thanks again!
