Farmall 300 Seasonal Disconnect

Hi all,
We don't use the PTO's on our tractors very much right now. My Dad's Super MTA has always had kind of a noisy PTO unit, so I turned off the PTO with the Seasonal Disconnect switch under the tractor. I was going to do the same on the '56 300, but there is no switch on the 300, but the 300 manual says there is a switch, but there is not any switch on the 300. Did some of the 300's not have this? It is a late 300, so I thought maybe they changed it or something, but I'm not sure. Does this tractor have a seasonal disconnect anywhere else???

Thanks,
Andy.

Andy: My 300 had a seasonal disconnect, however there was some discussion about two weeks ago, saying it became optional on 350, 450, 460, etc. I suspect it was always an option.

Andy farmall 300 tractors serial # 24837 and higher the seasonal disconnect wasn't standard equipment.

My Dad and myself have owned a bunch of Tractors of that vintage and i have never seen one with a disconnect. Guess maybe i was sittin in the seat drivin it instead of laying underneath fixin it.

Thanks. Do you know if a seasonal disconnect cover with a switch in it would bolt on my Dad's 300 to make it have a seasonal disconnect?

Thanks for the info.

Yes, but I think you need to split the tractor to get the other type of shaft in there.

A solid splined coupling that joins 2 shafts above cover has to be removed and 2 dog style couplings installed in its place along with cover and shift parts. Never tried to get couplings in or out without splitting in front of transmission, but almost positive it can"t be done without splitting.

D Slater: That explains it for me, I was quite certain my 300 manual that came new with the tractor, treated the seasonal disconnect a standard equipment. Very likely it was, dad bought it new in June 55. I don't have the serial number close at hand, probably could find it with some digging.
