Splitting Stands

Anyone know of a good set of CAD plans out there for splitting stands? .pdf, .dxf, whatever. I don't expect 'em for free. You could point me to a web site, too. I could probably cobble something together, but I need pictures to show my wife. She (rightfully) worries about my safety, so the plans have to be sturdy.

I like some features of the Omar stands, but there are other features that kinda give me the willies.

I made my own, but there are no plans. Maybe I should take the measurements, make up a set of plans, and get rich? Anyhow, here are some pics.

Those are [b:654c4848f0][u:654c4848f0]EXCELLENT[/u:654c4848f0]!!![/b:654c4848f0] Thank you! I should be able to work something up from the pictures!

That big caster wheel came from the surplus center in Lincoln, Ne. The 3/4" threaded rod came from my local farm supply. Everything else was in the iron pile.

Nice looking stands. They look like they are adjustable and can be used on more than one color and size of tractor.

Wow! With stands like that even I would venture to take on a split. The pictures are clear, color coded (!), and all that is missing - are the specs.

If you are just splitting one of the small ones, like the a,b,c, a jack under the trans and some pieces of all-thread about 2 foot long will align it and hold the motor in place for short times. Like for replacing the clutch, throw out bearing, such things.

"...and get rich?..."

I think that you should make up some plans and maybe make a few sets Rusty.... There is a guy on eBay right now who wants to get $330 dollars for just the front stand, and that doesnt include the shipping costs.

If you had more scrap in your iron pile and some more time with the welder, you could put them up on your site...

My supply of suitable iron is about to run out, and if I had to buy new steel it would probably drive the cost up to the point of being ridiculous. I may give some thought to drawing up a set of plans though.

Nice stands, really nice stands. Can you post photos from the other side? So we'd have right and left views?

And, if I can be really demanding, a close up of how the front of the rear stand adjusts? Looks like the right side is a box, with the left a c channel that slideas in the box. How does the right side box move?

Nice splitting stands! My method is an overhead I-beam and a chain hoist for the rear halve and two pieces of channel iron for the front halve, bolted to the frame.

Dan,

Send me an e-mail and I'll send you pictures of the front stand that I make. I still have not figured out this picture posting thing.
