Extra mark on M crankshaft pulley

Hi all:Today I just noticed an extra "timing" mark on the crankshaft pulley of my M. It is 5 1/2 inches past the second of the two marks that are close together in the direction of the engine rotation. Can anyone tell me what that mark is for? Also, can"t get the M to run smoothly. My I&T manual says to time it so the mag. will trip on the first mark, and yesterday I found a book that stated time on the second mark. Which is correct? Thanks for any responce.

Line the single mark up with the pointer, there is a grease zerk on the outside edge of the flywheel that is now in line with the hole on the bottom of the bell housing, this is for greasing the clutch pilot bearing. Time mag to trip on the second mark.

NebraskaKirk is correct. The second mark is TDC the first is the running timing and needs a timing light to use (and a tach). JimN

My oiginal Farmall operators manual says to static time the magneto to trip when the FIRST of the double marks is in line with the pointer.

have seen that in Ih manuals before, and I believe it is referring to the way they look in the manual, not the way they pass the pointer.
