Question about adding remotes to a Super A

I did a lot of searching and reading though the archives in this forum and found enough information to be dangerous.

I ordered a bypass block from Saginaw to go on the touch control unit of my 1948 Super A. I am not the most knowledgeable person when it comes to hydraulics so I hope to find a little help here.

From what I read I need an open center type valve. I also read my pump is close to 5 gpm. Looking around I found a 2 spool 5 gpm open center valve. One spool is single acting and the other is double acting. Can I use something like this understanding I may need an axillary reservoir? I currently have no need for remotes but wanted to add them for future use and I wasn"t sure if I would need double or single acting and this looked like it covered all bases. I am guessing the valve has one in and one out?

It looks like a lot of people have done this so I was just seeing if what I had in mind would work or if I am way off base. You guys haven"t let me down so far!

If you are just going to be using a two-way cylinder then you need an additional reservoir. There is not enough capacity in the touch control unit to handle a one-way cylinder.

The need for single or double acting is determined by the application. Single acting will apply force in only one direction. It that case the opposite direction is usually be gravity, but it can be with a spring. Double acting will apply force both directions. If you use a single acting application, you will need an additional reservoir since all the fluid to extend the cylinder must come from the reservoir. In the double acting application, fluid is returned from one end of the cylinder to the reservoir as the piston moves replacing what came out. Thus you do not need as much reservoir capacity. However, you must add a vent to your reservoir as the Super A reservoir has none and with the remote, you may end up putting excess pressure on the system if you don't have a vent.

Thanks Guys! I will fit a reservoir into my plan. Is the 5 gpm assumption safe for the valve I was looking at?
