hydraulics on an 856 international

My tractor won't raise its 2 point or front loader. I have even gave the tractor full throttle thinking more power will make the hydraulics work but it doesn't. I have put a new filter in it and changed the oil. Is it my pump not working? If it is the problem where is it located? I could use all the help i can on this.

the main hitch pump is located in the lower left of the rearend just ahead of the left rear axle . My be something as simple as a sheared key on the pump drive gear .A new key a new lock nut one gskt . and a O/RING will fix that. You must drain the hyd, oil and to do this you will need the bottom third of a 55 gallon drum and it will darn near fill it . Now if this is not the problem you did not say if you have steering and breaks and if the tracor will or will not move if it has a T/A . Now if this is the case then the repair gets a little more involved as the tractor will have to be split at the bellhouseing and you will need a new pressure plate a PTO input shaft bearing seals and gskt and since you are replacing the pressure plate ya might as well reface the flywheel and put in a new clutch disc.

I do not know how the 856 is set up, but most IH's are similar. My 504 lost all remote hydraulics, but had steering, same pump. I found either a check valve had trash in it or the relief had trash in it. I say either because after cleaning them, it worked.

Your problem sounds like the entire hydraulics have failed. The pump(s) have a drive gear that is keyed to the pump input shaft. When I changed my pump, the key and keyway was VERY worn. I was about to shear the key, good thing I was changing pumps.

If you have a manual or know where the pump is, I'd pull the pump and check the key. If that checks out good, look for a stuck relief or check valve.

Howard,

Something to do with with that rear pump. Hitch and remotes are on a separate system.
