A friend is looking at a IH tractor and was wondering what it was and if a 3 point hitch can be installed on it. I have not seen it but he gave me the numbers from it any help would be appreciated

1 # he gave me is 360553-R3
2# IH 2 with a box around it followed by 316B
3# 27764SJ

Why not post a photo?

360553-R3 is a CASTING number (I THINK for the transmission casting of a "300" or a "350").

I haven't see the tractor And this fella did not have any pictures.
Thanks For the info.
I will try to have him take pictures this weekend.

360553R3 is a part number. it replaced 360553R2, which replaced 360553R1. I have no idea what it goes on.

3-16-B is a date casting. That part was cast march 16, 1956.

27764SJ is the chassis serial number. S means it has TA with provision for 540 independent PTO; J means it has Rockford clutch. This number was most likely stamped into an aluminum ID plate which would also have the model printed on it. That would be most helpful for ID.

My guess what has been said so far that you are either looking at a 300 or 400, both of which an aftermarket 3-point can be added to. Such as a hitch from Saginawcounty. Originally it would have had as an option the fast hitch.

Its a farmall or utility model 300. If the best place to mount to tractor seat is in front of rear tires its a utility, if behind wheels farmall.
