1-PR corn picker question

There is a gate on the wagon elevator. It operates with a rope so that ears do not fall on the ground when you come out of the field and turn at the end of the row. That's all I know about it. I have a parts book and a service manual, but no operator's manual.

How does it work ? Does the rope attach to the tractor somewhere ? Do I pull the rope when I get to the end of the row ? And trip it again when going back into the field ?

Any information would be appreciated. Thanks

Greg

Anytime you tie a rope to the tractor and especialy the seat, make darn sure you use a small loop in a fine wire. The reason is like as say a plow, they unhook or you forget to untie the rope when you unhook. Ever notice some old tractor seats with the holes tore up?

Another thing to consider is anything with a PTO shaft running can grab that rope, so the fine wire will break as needed.

Yes, that's how it works. I used to pull a 1pr a lot. If your tractor has independant live PTO, just shut the picker off after you leave the picked row and turn it on again once you get straightened out for the new, unpicked row. That's what I always did. Never used the rope.

And if the rope has just the correct slack, you only have to tickle it to the right to release the latch for the elevator to be running again. And a slight pull will have the latch latched to stop the elevator. Probably did the slight pull and tiny tickle a million times!
