Looking to buy a 47 Farmall H but the rear rims and tires are shot. Not sure where to purchase or how much it would run. Not sure if the tractor is worth it? What would it cost to replace bothe rear rims and tires? Live in Germantown, WI

You can figure $75-300 each for rims depending on where you get them and if you buy new or used. Tires $75-500 again depending on new or used. In my area tires to fit and H used are next to impossible to find. I can find the 15.5-38s and up but the 11.2-13.6 sizes are very hard to find

By shot do you mean they won't hold air at all and the rims are rusted through or broken? A worn out tire is still a good tire on one of these old girls if it still keeps the inner tube inside. Same goes for the rim. How much is the asking price for the tractor? Unless you are going to bring it back to better than new condition I doubt that new tires or rims are worth it unless that's the only way out. I doubt we'd throw out our 70 year old mother just because she needed better shoes though, would we? Try to find auctions for tire/rim combos. Olds advice is pretty much the range to expect and I'm much closer to you being in Iowa. Check with the tire dealers that do service calls for ag equipment they might have some good used rubber out back in the scrap pile or they might keep you in mind ( doubtful ) when on service calls and they run across some behind a farmers shed. Rims can sometimes be fixed and old rubber is still usable if it doesn't literally crumble to the touch. Just keep an eye out for a better set. JMHO ...Randy

keep your eyes open for nearby consignment farm equipment auctions. kinda odd, but the last couple i was at, clamp on duals, decent tires, complete went cheap. i picked up a set of 18-4 34's on rims with the clamps for 55.00. you can transfer the tires to a decent set of rims then.

Thanks for the info. I can purchase the tractor for 800, comes with a front-end scoop. The tires are extremely dry rot but still holding air. The rims have rusted through in a couple spots, near the edge of the rim, (that mets the tire). Didn't want to fix the old tractor up but just keep everything original and working to have on the mini farm.

If you're not going to put the tractor to work right away, time and patience will yield you affordable tires and rims. Last spring I was able to pick up a pair of nearly-new 13.6x38 tires for my Super H with tubes for $350 each. They came with rims off a Ford tractor, which I removed and sold for $150 each, leaving me with $200 per tire invested.

i fixed my rim with metal from junk rim, used sawsall cut a patch, cut out bad part , welded in with weleder i borrowed. cost very little just time, web site grammplers tire or something like that, tells step by step on changing tire, very easy

Replacement rims are available, but expensive. There are still several good used ones around. New rear tires/tubes might be in the $500-$600 range.

For rims you are gonna be looking at a $100 to $150 a piece. For the tires, I'll tell you my little secret...check for used tires at a local CoOp that does a lot of spraying, as most of the Miller and Terra sprayers are using 12.4-38 tires. With all of the road travel, they change them out every couple of years. I buy used 12.4-38 tires from my local CoOp for $100 a piece, and they are usually around 40% still, not to mention nice and pliable.

Good luck!
