Port on intake side of manifold??

Don't know why but I happened to cast a glance at a couple of old manifolds I had layin' off to the side in the shop. One (salvable) is off my SuperC, the other (shot--rusted and split out from freezing on the exhaust side) is off my BN. Both have ports on the intake of the exhaust, just above the flange where the carb would mount. Can't remember which is which, but one has a pipe cap closing it up, the other has a screw threaded into the inside.

What was that for? It's what I'd expect to find for hooking up an exhaust lift (fine for the BN but not for the SuperC) except that it's very definitely on the intake side of the manifold.

Whaddaya suppose it (they) were for?

When I was a kid, we used the one on our B Farmall to run a Surge milking machine when the REC power went off. It was enough vacuum to run only one at a time but it sure beat milking by hand.

Heat Houser has it rite thats what the plug was for. The exhaust system ran off a pressure valve mounted where the muffler is located.
