International 240 U belt pulley

240U

New User
I have a 1958 International 240 U with belt pulley and PTO. According to the owner's manual you could get the PTO,or the PTO + Belt Pulley, as accessories. I want to remove the belt pulley setup but leave the PTO. I would just make a plate and a gasket to close the belt pulley hole off. My question is - will removing the belt pulley leave a void spot inside the tractor where it was driven from which may cause issues with the PTO, etc..? The belt pulley works fine, it is just in the way for the 3 point hitch I am fabricating.

Opinion on one issue, The belt pulley option may be a rare thing to have on a 240 Utility, unless it is the same as super C on up. If I had it, I would try to work around it. Or at the very least make sure it was saved and identified for re attachment.
I believe a plate will block it off. JimN

My Plate has a sizable bulge in it although I dont know if there is anything under it.I think I'll have to look!!!! But definitley keep the assembly!

I switched from a belly mower to a pull-behind on my 140 a few years ago and pulled the belt pulley. I had to get the plate with a bulge from a dealer (they said I got the last one East of the Mississippi--it came from NH). There was a shaft end from inside that would have hit a flat plate. I know 140 does not equal 240; my point is that those bulges are there for a reason. Other than that, it just pulled off.

Durk is right on the money, I Pulled mine on my 240U and theres a shaft in there, probably the drive for the pulley.....Check Wengers, I think I saw one there a week ago.

Yep, that is for sure Jan, it will be photographed and stored in the shop with all the parts that are removed. I intend to let my son use this as his first working tractor fix-it project, not a total restoration, to see how he likes doing it. He is a sophomore in college and coming home for the holidays and will likely stay in the shop most of the time, this should keep him busy. Thanks for the help everyone!
