Friend bought an MD. The grill has what looks like about a 6X6 hole in the center bottom screened portion of the grill. Im sure it was factory because of finished design. Cant find anything in books showing it. The man who had the M also has an H with the same hole in grill.Any info appreciated.

the hole was for a swinging cultivator mount that clamped on to the steering shaft and stuck out thru the grille. there was a little cover door that fastned over the hole if the mount was not used. oem and steiners sell the replacement cover. also was was one a lot was the bottom portion of the grille br was sawed off so the grille could be removed easily if the cultivator was still mounted. steiners sells a patch panel for the m for that,, it welds in. so far, no one produces one for the h. i have made a couple at the shop to repair h grilles. not hard to do, some sheet metal and a hammer and dolley, couple hours work.

Some of the cultivators had a steering arm that came thru the opening. Turning the steering wheel would in turn move the cultivators side to side quicker. My dad had that style on an H but a another model on an M that didn`t need that arm. These were both 2 row cultivators. There could of been a need for that opening for mounted corn pickers but is only a guess.
