400 and 450

i found another 400 thats been sitting outside for long time it has one set of wheel weights and fenders but is prob stuck... has some piece of metal on front end by tires sod buster??? and also guy has a 450 deiesl motor is free just not in tractor thats in a garage.. tractor outside.. what is 400 gas worth and 450 diesel???

That piece of metal is a scraper. It's for peeling mud off the tires.

400 gas stuck-$1000 maybe

450 diesel-$2000 if you know the motor runs

Those would the high side numbers in my opinion. Being how you can't hear either tractor run or drive them around you'd have to go by sheetmetal condition and appearance. Make sure stuff hasn't been robbed off them. If the 400 is stuck and ends up having a cracked block, head, etc, you'll wish you hadn't spent that much.

Save your money and find a good running 400 or 450 gasser. Can be bought all day for 2-3000. Stay away from the unknown bargain basement stuff. You'll find plenty to do on the "nice" tractor to keep you busy and broke for a couple years.

well sheet metal is all straight on everything just the seats are gone is that scraper worth anything? ive bever seen one..in know a set of fenders are worth something

That scraper was annoying and worthless new, it made it even harder to dig mud out from between the tires after you got good and stuck.

I don't know how collectors feel about them.

Find out what your scrap price in your area is and offer him that for the 400. I wouldn't pay more than 200 for it. I see running M and h's around here bring 600 with decet tires etc. The engine if you know it runs is probably worth that.

(quoted from post at 12:18:22 12/05/08) oh ok he wnats 400.00 for the 400 and 500.00 for the 450

Do they have wide front ends? How are the tires?

I bought a 450 parts tractor a while back for $400, used the wide front end on my H. Sold the rear tires/wheels for $300, power steering setup for $300, wheel weights for $100, live hydraulic pump for $250 and the transmission/rearend for another $250. Tin work was junk and went with the trans/rearend.

If they have good tin and some usable parts on them you can easily make some profit. A good IH wide front end is easily worth $400 to $500 with wheels and tires. Live hydraulic pumps with front cover/plate will fit M and Super M and are worth another $400 right place/right time...

Thats a heck of a deal. I bought my 450 diesel at an auction this summer for $800. Tires were flat, engine stuck, sheet metal was sitting on a pallet in front of the tractor. They only built about 6,000 of them and many have been scrapped or parted out years ago. $500 is a good price They are worth $10,000 to $12,000 restored. Andy

I watched a 450 diesel with narrow front sell for $1100 at Hennessey Implement auction in Wisconsin on 10/16/2008. It was not running but was complete, turned over but not running, one rear tire flat,do not remember if drawber hitch or if it was fast hitch. Scott

Mike,

Did I read the post wrong. Is it a whole 450 tractor or just the engine. I read it as though it were only the engine. and a complete 400 tractor.
