Anybody have numbers produced on these front wheel asssist models. Looking into a couple of these?? Thanks Migraine
 
I don't have any figures for FWD but total number of units were 5088=8176, 5288=5905, 5488=3951. Hey Migraine, are you catching this weather up your way? 80 knot winds with snow. It moved the 400 pound BBQ across the porch with the wheels locked. The trash cans are somewhere in the field but it is too dark and nasty to go looking for them.
 
Just kinda snooping around lately as I'm out on the road selling machinery. Found a 5488 that needs a transmission but... We have two 2 wheel drives available at the store but was curious about the FWD. Wonder if you could find the parts to make a 2 wheel into FWD? Weather is just plain lousy with cold wind rain and then supposed to turn to snow. Oh yea its winter in the northwest. Migraine
 
I don't know about converting to 4x, but the 5488 isn't your standard Farmall M. Computer controlled 18 speed tranny. 187hp pto. 8000 pound lift at the hitch. It sounds like any work on these beasts will cost $$$.

The wind has calmed. Will have to search for the trash cans in the morning. I hope the trash will still be in them. Yeah right.
 
It is possible to convert one but you would definaly get into some money doing it. Not only would you have to have the complete front end but you would need everything in the transmission also. Clutch pack and drive shafts. The neighbor put mfd on a 7140 they have. Paid 6000 just for the axle and all the parts to do it.
