C or Super C

Old Fellow sort of or semi kin to "THE WIFE" passed away, had an old tractor...First word I had was, "Just go make them any kind of an offer, They want it out of the way". I was headin' to South La. at the time, went over last night price had went up to $1000. A lady at the house told Me "lots of people from up north buy these old antiques off the internet to drive in parades".....Tractor looks like a "C" Farmall, was told it was a SUPER "C"....Does have a drag disc ( John Deere) a few cultivators and plows, look like Home made implement bars. The man said 'WE can put in a hot battery and drive it around, it runs good". Went back today, daylight, it don't look to good....No generator or any wirein' at all, (reasonin' for the hot battery part?)gauges all shot, was told water pump leaks pretty good so it doesn't have any water in it...Didn't try to start it. Tires are up and fair.Seat may not be original, Number on plate under seat is 69059. ( Nothin' in My serial number book matches This ) I'm not sharp on "C"s...No letters on hood or grille....I don't need this tractor, I'd bet it needs everything from A to Z...Man did say "HE would not guarantee the tractor"....I wouldn't mind ownin' a Super C ....don't mind workin' on tractors But???Yaw'LLs Opinion....Is this a $200 to $300 Tractor ? I have heard it said, what something is worth is what a person is willin'to pay but a person can pay too much

Thanks,
Wild Bill

There are other differences if you have seen enough to tell the difference, but a dead giveaway would be the pedals. They were straight on the Cs. SuperCs the upper part of the pedals were curved back toward the operator.

Cs had band brakes, Supers had discs.

Either one is a handy tractor

Bill: Your right on your estimated value, $200. to $300.

It is a C, serial numbers 5 digit or less are all C. All SC have 6 digit serial numbers.

As Rob mentioned, the C did not come with a water pump but one could have been added. In addition to what the others said, the gas tank on a C has less than an inch of clearance between the bottom of the gas tank and the touch control hydraulic unit. The Super C will have about 2 inches of clearance. If the seat isn't original it could have come off of a C thus giving you the 5 digit serial number. Just below #1 (the front one) spark plug is a flat machined spot. If you get all of the grease off of it you should be able to read the engine serial number. It won't exactly match the tractor serial number but it will be close. On the torque tube, rear end, or any other large piece on it will be the casting date. Such as 12 * 17 * Y where the Y would be for 1953.

Bill, the serial numbers listed in your serial number book are the first serial number for each year. The tractor does not have to have the exact number listed in the book.

Example: If the first serial number for the year 1951 is 12345, and the first number for the year 1952 is 23456.

Our example tractor's serial number is 15432. It's between 12345 and 23456, which means it was built in 1951.

Going by the serial number list on the left panel of this website, this C that you're looking at is a 1950. Because it's fairly close to the first number for 1951, it was probably built late in 1950.

Thanks to all You HANDS that replied....Just took another look at this tractor, does have straight brake pedals, Gas tank one inch from HYD Unit, and has a water pump. As Yaw'll said Pump could be an add on or the engine could be from a Super "C"...( or wouldn't a Super "A" engine fit this one) Bad Thing Though, Front of engine, Carb. side, between #1 and #2, Big patch of J B WELD, BONDO, or something simuliar....Patch has several cracks in it. Patches can mean many things to different people, dependin' if You are the SELLER or the BUYER..Seller will say "XPERT PERFECT REPAIR of the tinest almost imposssible to detect crack ever" BUYER, "Junk Block"...Bout all I'll go is $100....Realy Bad Thing? My weakness has always been Super "A"s, NOW I"VE GOT THE DANGEST CASE OF HOTS FOR A SUPER "C"

Thanks'

Bill: The block part number for a C is 251069 R1, Super C is 354898 R1. There could be R2 instead of R1 in both cases. Kind of half hidden behind oil filter.

Bill, super C's are great tractors. I would pass on this one though, and never look back. My SC was on a rock pile and I got it for 100.00 and it was in good shape. Mine also has a fast hitch on it. Around here you can get a tractor like you were talking about for 100 to 200. I had the chance to buy a running super c no fast hitch for 225 this summer.
If you find one like mine good tires, fast hitch, motor does NOT smoke, everything works well, Expect to pay 1200 to 2000 depending on condition. I have turned down an offer to sell mine for 1500.
I love my SC, I plowed snow out 5 driveways yesterday and made 100 dollars in less than two hours. My son and I had fun and made a few bucks along the way. This picture is my son using it to carry his lawn mowing stuff. He uses it for his lawn mowing buisness, and now snow plowing. Ron
