HI. I hate to be a pest about this but I wonder if anybody has a picture they could e-mail me of a hyd. lift and stubble axle on an IH #8 2 bottom plow on rubber. I want to convert mine and restore it. Thanks again, DTK

DTK,
You say you "want to convert mine and restore it". I think that is what is called an oxymoron; you can"t convert it and then ever call it restored.
I have a rope trip #8 and love to plow with it that way. Of course I"m getting long in the teeth when I admit I never pulled a hydraulic plow when I was a kid as they weren"t invented yet.
Those old rope trip plows are neat to watch at plow days, and it"s fun to watch one that is properly set up to plow correctly and go up and down properly.
Converted it can be, but it will then never be restored.
If I can be of any help to you with adjustments on that rope trip ol" girl I will try to do so.

The hydraulic conversion was sold by IH as an add-on for #8 plows... and I would not doubt that many of the last ones sold off dealer lots came with the hydraulic lift already installed.

I've got a copy of the installation manual, and as I recall nothing is really done to the plow that would preclude it from doing a "purist" restoration.

It's a personal preference if "field original" or "factory original" is the way you want to go. If someone were to faithfully reproduce the hydraulic lift kit (not difficult to do) and install it on a #8 plow that didn't have one "originally" I wouldn't hold it against them. Replace the wear parts, sand blast it clean, and paint it up... I'd call that restored, myself.
