706 DOSN'T LIKE TO SHIFT IN REVERSE

... last year i replaced a rod in the rear end and i piece of shifting linkage.. i thought i tightened everything else up but still dosen't like goingin reverse.. every other gear is fine.. minus how an old farmall shifts any ideas???

There are several things that have to be tight to make rev. work the top cover has to be tight where the main shifter goes thru to the cam then the rev. shifter arm that works off the shifter cam must fit tight in to the cover and the roller must be in place on the shifter arm . Next the rev. shifter rod that runs down to the rev. shifter fork must be tight in the fork andusualy they get woren in the woodworf key slot . The way that set up works any slop will give ya fits So fist off get a I T manual and study the shifter set up then starting at the gear shift lever ya work your way down and fix repair replace any thing that has slop Go back into the archives and read up on this as i have gone over this many times . Next everything in the clutch adjustment MUST be set as i have outlined before. When everything is set the way it is suppose to be then she will shift with two fingers and there will be no need to slam it into gear.

Then I would bet that you problem is with inner linkage.
pull the cover off the center section below the steering wheel by the park brake and their will be a rod that runs down in there.
You want to find the one that moves when you shift the range lever, use a magic marker to mark a line up and down on it and have someone shift it while you watch.
If the line stays lined up then it is inside the rear.
Takes more time than money to fix.
